Steps to Setting Boundaries During the Holidays

Don’t let yourself get lost in the holiday craziness. ♥️ Here are three steps to set boundaries with others (pushy loved ones included!) during the holidays.

Step 1: Safe Start

Practice setting boundaries with a trusted friend. Practice saying no. 🙂

Step 2: Pause

You don’t need to respond right away! Give yourself at least an hour to consider whether this request or invitation is okay for you. If it is an in person ask, say “Let me get back to you. I have some scheduling details I need to figure out.”

Step 3: Use Gentle Ways to Say No

You don’t have to go to every event! Give yourself space too.

“I won’t be able to make it this year, but I’m glad you asked me.”

“My schedule is booked; let’s find a time to hang out after the holidays.”

“As a family, we are having to say no to some things this season, but I’m looking forward to coming to the next gathering.”

We hope these steps help you feel healthier this holiday season. If you'd like to use music to examine the emotions behind your relationships, check out Harmony for the Holidays, our free self-guided music experience.
